The Cold War, America’s crusade against communism, lasted for decades from 1947-1991. So, generations of Americans were either raised during or raised their children during the most tense and paranoid time in modern U.S. history. I believe this has left a mark on the American psyche and on modern American life. I was born in 1986, so obviously I was not alive for much of the Cold War and not aware during the rest of it. But as an outside observer, I think I can trace certain traditional ideas acclaimed in America, and especially by conservative Americans, to cold, moldy and slimy leftover attitudes from the Cold War.Read More »
